Bazaars to offer crafts, food and cheer Family entertainment, handmade gifts available

When November blows in, it can mean only one thing: Christmas is just around the corner. And that means holiday bazaars are scheduled around the county.

Carroll's Christmas bazaars start this weekend and continue into December.

They offer a variety of handmade crafts, decorations and homemade foods ranging from decorated sugar cookies to fancy cakes and gourmet pies.

Here is a sampling of the bazaars scheduled for this weekend and the near future.

This weekend

* Oakland United Methodist Church, 5969 Mineral Hill Road, Eldersburg, will have its Christmas in the Country bazaar from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow. Turkey platters, soups and sandwiches will be served for lunch. Information: 795-2127.

* St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 1373 N. Main St., Hampstead, will have a fall bazaar from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. Meals, including supper today and lunch tomorrow, will be served. Information: 374-2819.

* Home and holidays will be featured at the Fall and Christmas Craft Bazaar at Greenmount United Methodist Church, 2001 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow. Some crafts are creations of residents of Deerfield senior community.

Children can visit Santa Claus and parents can have a photograph of the visit placed on a clothing item or coffee mug.

Santa's secret workshop will be staffed by teen-agers of the church.

Pastry and coffee will be available in the morning, and lunch is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Information: 239-8226.

* Sam's Creek Church of the Brethren is sponsoring a Holiday Bazaar from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the church hall, 2736 Marston Road, near New Windsor. A light lunch will be available. Information: 848-0687 or 795-3008 or tomorrow, 635-2772.

* Deer Park United Methodist Church is sponsoring a Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow. A hot roast beef luncheon platter for $4.50 will be served.

Included in the bazaar will be an Elf Shop for children. The church is at 2200 Sykesville Road, Westminster. Information: 857-5089.

* The Lineboro Christmas Craft Show will feature 31 crafts people from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. tomorrow at the fire hall on Main Street. A quilt will be raffled and lunch will be served. Information: 374-2370.

* Trinity Lutheran Church, 833 Deer Park Road in Smallwood, will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow. Information: 848-7812.

Next weekend

* Ascension Episcopal Church, 23 N. Court St., Westminster, will have its annual Mistletoe Mart from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 9 and 10 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 11. This event offers tea and cookies, and crafts people from surrounding states selling holiday goodies. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children younger than 12. Information: 848-3251.

* Emory United Methodist Church, Route 91 in Upperco, will sponsor its Country Craft Cupboard holiday bazaar from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 10 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 11. Raffles, gift baskets and a Bargain Basement will be offered.

Lunch will be sold in Emory Hall. Dinner plates are $5. A Kids Only Room will feature items children can purchase for $5 and less for their parents, grandparents and siblings; gift-wrapping will be available. Information: 833-6596.

* St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 200 Main St., New Windsor, will have its Early Bird Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 11. Flowers and teddy bears are featured. Church women will sell lunch. Information: 635-2442.

* St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church will have a country fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 11 in the parish house, 7609 Main St., Sykesville. A farmer's market, Ye Olde Bake Shop, window quilt raffle and a turkey platter lunch will be featured. Information: 795-0767.

Nov. 18

* Manchester Volunteer Fire Department's Sparks of Fire ladies group will sponsor a holiday craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 18 at the York Street Activities Building. Information: 374-4259 or 239-2286.

* Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Company will have a Christmas in the Valley holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 18 in the fire hall, 2030 S. Pleasant Valley Road. Information: 848-0010.

* Wesley-Freedom United Methodist Church will have a Christmas bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 18 at 961 Johnsville Road, Eldersburg. This event, including handmade crafts and strolling carolers, features gingerbread figures, accessories and a yuletide cafe offering lunch. Information: 795-2777.

* Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 2205 Old Liberty Road, Eldersburg, will have a country holiday craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 18. Victorian decorations and stained glass are for sale. Information: 795-6333.

Nov. 24 and 25

* Downtown Manchester will be the site of an Old-fashioned Christmas Open House from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 24. The evening includes a Christmas party, town tour and community thank-you, all free.
