NCAA: Announced that California will lose two of the 12 official recruiting visits allowed the men's basketball program in 1995-96 for a minor violation in the recruitment of Shareef Abdur-Rahim.

Atlantic Coast Conference: Maryland's April Heinrichs was named women's soccer Coach of the Year. Among those selected to the All-ACC first team were Maryland M Michelle Demko and North Carolina State's Thori Staples (Joppatowne). Maryland's Missy Meharg was named field hockey Coach of the Year. Four Maryland players were named first-team All-ACC: Tricia Burdt (St. Paul's), Lynsey McVicker, Christine DeBow and Sara Salam.

Capital Athletic Conference: Named Radcliffe Roye and Jim St. Jean (Goucher), Matt Tirschman (Salisbury State), John McManus (St. Mary's), Steve Groves (Salisbury State), Keith Chesla (Salisbury State), Jeff Sack (St. Mary's) to the all-conference first team.

North Atlantic Conference: Towson State freshman S Heather Hutson (Glen Burnie) was named conference volleyball Rookie of the Week.

NFL: Settled with the players' union on the contract matter of Dallas Cowboys CB Deion Sanders. Announced that the Cowboys will have to apply an additional $1.6 million toward their salary cap over the next four years.

Miami Dolphins: Placed T Ron Heller on IR. Signed T Eric Moore. Waived TE Joe Planansky from the active roster and DE Arthur Bussie and WR Demeris Johnson from the practice squad. Signed T Mark Hatfield to the practice squad.

New York Jets: Placed T Siupeli Malamala, DL Donald Evans and CB Marcus Turner on IR.

Philadelphia Eagles: Signed LB James Willis. Released LB Nate Dingle, and cut CB Vaughn Bryant from the practice squad.

Hockey

NHL: Suspended St. Louis Blues D Chris Pronger for four games and fined him $1,000 for slashing incident against Pat Peake of the Washington Capitals last week.

Chicago Blackhawks: Traded RW Darin Kimble to the New Jersey Devils for C Bill Armstrong and C Mike Vukonich. Assigned Armstrong to IHL Indianapolis and announced that Vukonich will remain with ECHL Raleigh.

New Jersey Devils: Obtained F Esa Tikkanen from the St. Louis Blues for a third-round draft choice. Assigned RW Darin Kimble to AHL Albany.
