Boy, 12, is charged with assault on youth
A 12-year-old boy was charged with assaulting a youth, taking his candy and then waving a knife at another youth who intervened in Ellicott City Tuesday night, Howard County police said.

The Ellicott City boy was taken to police headquarters and then released into parental custody, police said. The incident began when a boy snatched a bag of Halloween candy from a youth.
A 16-year-old boy nearby tried to fend off the thief, but allowed him to run away after he made threatening motions with a knife, police said. Officers searching the area arrested a suspect, police said.
