Her relationship with O. J. is over, Barbieri says

Paula Barbieri stayed celibate and waited for O. J. Simpson during his murder trial, but now the relationship is over, she said in an ABC interview aired yesterday.

When Mr. Simpson called her from a cellular phone in his car on his way home after his Oct. 3 acquittal, she still had faith that they could be together, Ms. Barbieri told "PrimeTime Live." But Mr. Simpson later suggested they pose for pictures together and get paid for it.

"Rather than a quiet, 'Let's get back to who you and I are, and let's get to know each other again on a different level' it was a realization for me that he was going to that lifestyle. He was going to live there in that lifestyle that he used to have," said Ms. Barbieri.

When Ms. Barbieri, 28, was asked if she still had a relationship with Mr. Simpson, her response was brief: "No, I don't," she said. "None of any kind."

Opera singer sues magazine over story

Opera diva Jessye Norman is suing a magazine for $3 million, claiming an article portrayed her as fat and stupid.

Classic CD magazine hit the sour note with the soprano in the November 1994 article.

The lawsuit, filed earlier this week against the magazine and two publishing companies, said the magazine portrayed Ms. Norman, who is black, "in a grotesque and exaggerated manner" as "an

uneducated and ill-spoken person."
