Alexandra, a senior at Wilde Lake at River Hill, carries a 3.95 grade point average in honors, gifted and talented and advanced placement courses. An honorable mention Maryland Distinguished Scholar, Alexandra has won a Pennsylvania Book Award Scholarship for leadership and departmental awards in Spanish.

Alexandra is senior class president and was junior and sophomore class president. A member of the Executive Board her junior and senior years, she is the president of the National Honor Society this year.

She won the Hugh O'Brian Leadership Award as a sophomore and was nominated for the 1994 and 1995 Maryland Leadership Seminar at the University of Maryland.

Alexandra also participates in the concert choir, the Madrigals Singing Group, the Beauty Shop Quartet and the Drama Club. She has performed in productions of "Into the Woods," "Gypsy" and "Oklahoma."

Alexandra is captain of the field hockey team. This is her third year on the varsity team. Awards include 1994 and 1995 Players to Watch, 1994 All County First Team, 1994 and 1995 All Academic Team and 1994 Second Team Metro Area.

Alexandra participated in track and field her freshman and sophomore years. Awards include 1993 Players to Watch, 1992 Championship 1A Division in the 1,600-meter and 400-meter relays, second in state and 1993 All Academic team.

Her volunteer efforts include tutoring high school students in Spanish and tutoring Spanish-speaking immigrants with the Foreign Born Information and Referral Network. She has helped with Red Cross blood drives at school and with the freshman orientation committee. She was asked to participate on the Board of Education Task Force to Review School Specifications when River Hill was being planned. She and another student gave the student viewpoint on its design.

Alexandra has earned six college credits by accumulating 90 hours of study at the Intensa Language School in San Jose, DTC Costa Rica, which she attended the past two summers. During the summer of 1993, Alexandra studied in Spain through World Learning Inc., a scholarship provided by the Rouse Co.

Alexandra has worked in the promotions department at The Mall in Columbia, setting up displays, handing out fliers and doing other jobs. She has also done clerical work for the Rouse Co.

Lauren's parents are Richard and Daryl Roe.

Plans: Alexandra hopes to attend Georgetown University and pursue a program in language and linguistics.

Her comments: "I have a passion for other cultures. Right now I want to perfect my Spanish. I want to pursue a career in international relations -- it could be in communication or politics or whatever I find."
