October 27, 1995|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Amy Noble re-directed a feed from Melissa Reynolds 6:58 into overtime for her 17th goal of the season lifting top-ranked Severna Park (14-0) over (6-3-2) Arundel, 1-0, in the first round of the 4A South Region playoffs.

It was the defending state champion Falcons' 50th consecutive victory as they began their quest for a fourth straight state championship and ninth overall in Lil Shelton's 21 years as coach. Severna Park plays in the semifinals Tuesday at Annapolis, which had a first-round bye.

Noble tapped the rolling ball a few feet from left to right between the legs of the Wildcats' sophomore goalie Megan Tidwell, who had stopped 18 previous shots.

"It was the same kind of goal we got to beat them 1-0 during the season only it was Amy to Athena [Mahoney] with 30 seconds left in regulation," said Shelton.

"We might be the two best teams in the region and their goalie is very good, and we've had two big games in a couple days."

The Falcons outshot the Wildcats, 22-6 with the winners' goalie Laura Snider only called on to make four saves, one on a penalty kick with 16:03 left in regulation.
