Baltimore man charged in shoplifting at Ward's

A Baltimore man was arrested Wednesday and charged with shoplifting from the Montgomery Ward store in Glen Burnie.

A store security officer told police that a man entered the store, in the 6700 block of Ritchie Highway, shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday carrying a Montgomery Ward bag. He tried to get a refund for some items without a receipt.

A clerk said she could not give him a cash refund but could offer him an exchange, so the man walked around the store and put three shirts into the bag, police said. He then walked out without paying for the shirts or returning the other items, police said. A security officer caught the man and held him for police.

Once inside a security office, the guard found that a telephone extension cord and a telephone jack had been taken, police said.

William Edward Alascio, 38, of the 1000 block of Parksley Ave. was charged with theft of $60 in merchandise.
