Anti-crime group sets block parties to mark growth

Adopt a Block, an organization dedicated to ridding neighborhoods of crime, drugs and other blights, will hold block parties on two weekends to celebrate the addition of nine blocks to its program.

The nine blocks later will form partnerships with Baltimore police, churches, merchants, social service agencies, community associations and residents.

The block parties are scheduled from noon until 3 p.m. tomorrow in the 2400 block of Ashland Ave. in the Police Department's Eastern District, the 2700 block of Spelman Road in the Southern District, the 500 block of Robert St. in the Central District, the 1100 block of Carey St. in the Western District and the 2800 block of Westwood Ave. in the Southwestern District.

Parties also are scheduled from noon until 3 p.m. Nov. 4 in the 400 block of Whitridge Ave. in the Northern District, the 400 block of N. Rose St. in the Southeastern District, the 3500 block of Woodland Ave. in the Northwestern District and the 1700 block of Tivoly Ave. in the Northeastern District.
