Norman falls, Duggan rises in Eastern Open It's an up-and-down day for tourney's final five

Tish Johnson missed yesterday's LPBT Eastern Open match play because she suffered swelling doctors believe may have been caused by a spider bite. Carol Norman will miss today's final round because she found herself snake-bitten in the match play.

Johnson's arm swelled so badly from blood poisoning that physicians advised her not to play. Norman's score fell so drastically in the final eight matches that she dropped from first place to sixth and out of the finals.

Anne Marie Duggan took advantage of Norman's misfortunes and jumped from seventh place to first by winning seven of her final eight matches. No one had a better understanding of the ups and downs of match play than Duggan, who started the day in first place. She had fallen to seventh by the final round of match play.

"I just had to go out there and concentrate. The next thing I knew I was in first place," said Duggan, last year's LPBT Player of the Year.

Wendy Macpherson beat Norman to move up to fourth place and will take on LPBT career wins leader Lisa Wagner in tonight's opening match. The winner wil take on third-place finisher Sandra Jo Shiery for a chance to compete against second-place finisher Kim Adler. The winner of that match will take on Duggan in one match for the title.
