Woodstock man remains in serious condition after being knocked off bike by car Thursday

A Woodstock man knocked off his bike by a car in Ellicott City last week remained in serious condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Michael Williams has been at the hospital for injuries including head wounds and abrasions since the 8:56 p.m. accident Thursday, Howard County rescue officials said.

According to fire officials, Mr. Williams was struck from behind on Old Frederick Road near Waverly Woods Drive. His helmet prevented more serious injury, officials said.

The driver of the car was not seriously injured, rescue workers said.

Police are investigating.
