October 24, 1995

A woman was distracted by a man while another man snatched her purse in Columbia early Saturday, but her boyfriend ran after the robber and recovered her property, Howard County police said.

There were no injuries, police said.

Police said the 22-year-old Columbia woman was leaving the Last Chance Saloon in the 5800 block of Columbia's Oakland Mills village at 1:30 a.m. Saturday when a man approached her and asked to borrow a lighter.

While she looked for the lighter in her purse, another man ran by and snatched it. Both men ran, but police said her boyfriend, who saw the incident while standing nearby, chased the man with the purse and took it back.
