Finksburg man accused of child abuse at center

A 58-year-old Finksburg man was being held in lieu of $25,000 bond Friday, accused of seven counts of abusing a child in a day care center from Jan. 2 to May 9 of this year.

Virgil Ray Goff of the 2200 block of Ridgemont Drive was arrested Friday on an indictment issued last week by the county grand jury, according to District Court documents.

Court records indicate Mr. Goff is charged with two counts of third-degree and fourth-degree sex abuse and one count each of assault, battery and committing a sex offense. He was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center.

Police

Westminster: A resident of Babylon Court reported to city police that someone broke into her house and stole property Tuesday. She estimated the theft at $1,400.

Westminster: The owner of Avenue Tailors told city police that someone broke into the rear of the shop and stole property and cash Tuesday. He estimated the theft at $404.

Fire

Westminster: Westminster, Pleasant Valley, Reese and Manchester firefighters responded for an apartment fire in the first block of Chase St. at 1:08 p.m. Friday. Units were out 12 minutes.

Westminster: Westminster and Reese units responded to a house fire in the 500 block of Old Westminster Pike at 12:39 p.m. Friday. Units were out two minutes.

Westminster: Westminster firefighters responded for wires down in the 300 block of Barnes Road at 11:24 a.m. Friday. Units were out 28 minutes.

Westminster: Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester units investigated a natural gas leak on Wimert Avenue at 7:40 p.m. Thursday. Units were out 30 minutes.

Westminster: Westminster units investigated a fire alarm on Nicodemus Road at 6:06 p.m. Thursday. Units were out eight minutes.
