A motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle when he struck a deer that ran into his path Thursday night on Marriottsville Road, Howard County rescue officials said.

Douglass Mielke, 32, of Sykesville was flown by state police MedEvac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was being treated for head injuries. A hospital spokeswoman said he was in good condition yesterday.

Rescue officials found Mr. Mielke disoriented in the roadway minutes after the 7:20 p.m. accident near Driver Road in Marriottsville. The deer was killed, officials said.
