All branch libraries switch to automated system

THE NEXT TIME you walk into one of the county's 15 branch libraries, you'll also take a step into the future, courtesy of a new $1.2 million automated library system.

Apple sale

The Severna Park Kiwanis Club is holding its annual apple sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the YMCA on B&A Boulevard. Take your pick of Golden and Red Delicious, Empire and Rome apples fresh off the tree.

Cider, apple butter, apple peelers and corer/slicer tools will be on sale. Orders of at least a bushel will be delivered free within the Severna Park area.

Costume parade

A good place for your kids to show off this year's Halloween costumes is the costume parade at noon Oct. 28 in front of Champion Realty in the Old Severna Park Village Center.

The parade is sponsored by the Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce and is part of a weekend that includes events at businesses in the Old Severna Park center and Park Plaza.

Shopper discount

To encourage Thursday evening shopping in the Park, Garry Anderson, owner of Garry's Grill, is offering a 10 percent discount to shoppers who present a receipt from a local business dated Thursday evening.

The 1995-1996 board of trustees officers for Chesapeake

Academy are Pennington Hopkins, chairman; Jane Pehlke, president; Richard Martin and Carl Sabold, vice chairmen; and Gordon Loetz, treasurer. Kimberly Wiggins is president of the academy PTA.

Retreat for children

Hospice of the Chesapeake is sponsoring a retreat for children ages 6 to 18 who have a family member or friend with a life-threatening illness. The retreat will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Annapolis Swim Center on Riva Road. It is free, and lunch is included.

Breast cancer group

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Cancer Resource & Support Center will be offering a group for men whose partners have breast cancer. Dr. Michael Kahn will lead this session during a meeting from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
