Edith Pargeter, 82, an author who created the medieval sleuth Brother Cadfael, died Saturday after a stroke in London. She wrote under the pen name Ellis Peters and used her home in western England as the setting for the "Brother Cadfael Chronicles," a series of 12th-century murder mysteries that became international best-selling books.
