UMBC wins on King's goal, ends Radford win streak at 7

Gheran King scored the game-winner at 75:12 in the rain as visiting UMBC (9-6, 4-1) ended Radford's seven-match win streak with a 2-1 Big South Conference victory yesterday. Radford fell to 10-2-1, 3-1.

* Johns Hopkins 4, Catholic 0: Bill Graf had a goal and an assist as visiting Johns Hopkins (10-4) shut out Catholic (6-7).

* Towson State 6, Hofstra 1: Freshman Petteri Kaijasilta scored two goals as No. 21 Towson State (10-2, 4-2) scored a season-high six goals in a North Atlantic Conference victory over Hofstra (3-11, 0-5) in Hempstead, N.Y.

* Fairleigh Dickinson 1, Mount St. Mary's 0: Phil Casella scored his ninth goal of the season in the 82nd minute to lift Fairleigh Dickinson (9-3, 6-1) to a Northeast Conference win over Mount St. Mary's (5-6-2, 2-2-2) in Teaneck, N.J.

* Western Maryland 2, Lynchburg 2: Dwayne Etmon scored with 4:30 left in the second overtime period to pull Lynchburg (1-12-1) into a nonconference tie with Western Maryland (6-6-2).

* York 2, St. Mary's 1: Kevin Morgan scored at 72:21 to lift visiting York (5-11) over St. Mary's (6-8).

Women

* UNC-Asheville 2, UMBC 1: UNC-Asheville (12-2, 4-1) won its fifth straight, a Big South Conference triumph over UMBC (6-7, 2-2) at UMBC Stadium.

* Towson State 3, Va. Commonwealth 3: Junior Christina Kenney scored three second-half goals for Virginia Commonwealth.

* Goucher 3, Swarthmore 2: Sophomore forward Sarah Weaver (Towson) scored twice to lead host Goucher (9-5).

* Mount St. Mary's 1, St. Francis 0: Christy Wicks scored her third goal of the season with 2:15 left in the game.

* Salisbury State 3, Frostburg State 1: Courtney Urban scored the game-winner 22:17 into the second overtime before Danielle Urban, her sister, added an insurance goal 3:13 later for host Salisbury. Frostburg fell to 8-5-1.
