Hot spots for keeping warm this winter

ISLANDS IN THE SUN

October 15, 1995|By Jenny Komatsu 5/8

Winter is coming, and soon freezing toes and icy noses will long for the warm sands and balmy breezes of a sun-kissed island. Hurricane Marilyn has beaten you to some of the old favorites in the Caribbean, but never fear. Sun Magazine went looking and found plenty of islands for your winter getaway, some close by and some far away.

Lounge on the pristine beaches of Tortola, one of the lesser known British Virgin Islands, or visit Australia's Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. Or consider a trip to Tonga, an island kingdom in the South Pacific.

Whether you're looking for the ultimate relaxation spot or a once-in-a-lifetime adventure vacation, there's an island for you.

To help you plan your dream island vacation, here's a regional list of tourist bureaus offering free information, travel guides and brochures.
