Dennis Winters, an assistant professional at the University of Maryland Golf Course, had six birdies and two bogeys in posting a closing-round 68, good for a two-round total of 137, and a three-stroke lead on the field in the annual Middle Atlantic PGA/Molson Tournament of Champions at Old South Country Club yesterday.

Frank Ferguson of Washington Golf & CC, took second with 70-70140, followed by defending champion Wayne DeFrancesco, Woodholme CC, 69-73142. Billy King of Roanoke, Va., was top senior.

* Sheila Dagucon parred the first extra hole with a three-foot putt to lift her and Montgomery Village G&CC clubmate Sharon Briggs to a repeat victory in the second two-woman team championship of the Maryland State Golf Association at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club. The winners and the Woodholme CC pairing of Andrea Kraus-Midge Thursby had tied with par-matching 72s in the 72-team field.

Briggs, knowing a birdie was needed to get a tie, got it for her side when she struck a six-iron shot that stopped four inches from the cup on the 18th green at the 117-yard closing hole.
