1988 Fabre-Montmayou Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendoza ($11)

Wine of the week

October 11, 1995|By Michael Dresser

This Argentine red is a spectacular wine for the price, with intense blackcurrant fruit and exceptional length and complexity for a wine from the often-torrid Mendoza region. There's a bit of roughness now, but additional bottle age should smooth it out and yield a wine of tremendous complexity and depth. It is easily the equivalent of many California wines at three times the price.
