7 vehicle break-ins reported near Mount Airy

State police are searching for a person who broke into seven vehicles on Christy Acres Circle and Wind Ridge Road, just north of Mount Airy early Sunday. Property valued at more than $1,700 was stolen.

Police said the windows of three cars were broken and cash, clothing, speakers and other electronic equipment were taken. Several of the vehicles had been left unlocked, officers said.

The thefts occurred between midnight Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 848-3111.

S. Carroll High band takes 2nd place in contest

South Carroll High School Cavaliers Marching Band took second place and two specialty awards in Group 2 bands Saturday night at A Knight in the Valley Tournament of Bands at Middletown High School, Frederick County.

The Cavaliers scored 81.3 and was named the unit with best drum major and best percussion. Group 2 bands have 36 to 55 musicians.

South Carroll's next scheduled competition is Saturday at Towson State University at the Maryland State Tournament of Bands Championship.

Mount Airy: Engines from Mount Airy, Westminster, Lisbon, Damascus, New Market and Germantown were dispatched to investigate the report of a propane leak in a building in the 1000 block of Twin Arch Road at 3:24 p.m. Saturday. Units were out 36 minutes.

Mount Airy: Mount Airy responded to an accident cleanup detail at Route 27 and Watersville Road at 10:52 a.m. Saturday. Units were out 56 minutes.
