Westminster students honored

Eleven seniors from Westminster High School have been selected "Commended Students" in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The 11 seniors are Melissa Clark, Rebecca Delaney, Christina Field, Heather Forman, Bethany Grimm, Lindsey Higgs, Pamela Homiak, Alexander Ober, Amanda O'Neal, Holly Seaman and Judy Wilkinson.

They are among about 35,000 students in the nation being honored. They placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1 million students who entered the 1996 Merit Program by taking the 1994 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Police

Westminster: A resident of Logan Drive reported someone stole her wallet while she was in the post office on East Main Street on Wednesday. She estimated the loss at $100.

Westminster: A resident of West Main Street told police someone broke the rear sliding window of his pickup truck and stole property while the vehicle was parked near his home Wednesday.

Fire

Westminster: Engines from Westminster and Reese were dispatched to a house fire in the 400 block of Tracy Court at 6:44 p.m. Thursday. Units were out 35 minutes.

Westminster: Engines from Westminster and Pleasant Valley were dispatched to the Comfort Inn on Western Maryland College Drive to investigate a fire alarm sounding at 3:52 p.m. Thursday. Units were out 25 minutes.
