NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Towson State senior running back Paul Hall guided Towson State to a 24-10 ECAC triumph over Central Connecticut State at Arute Field yesterday.

Hall had 14 carries for 72 yards and two touchdowns on a rain-slicked field to lead a Tigers running game that outgained the hosts 130-23.

Towson State ran its record to 3-2, 2-1 in ECAC; the Blue Devils fell to 0-5.

On Towson's second possession of the game, quarterback Kevin Smith connected on three passes for 61 yards, including ** the opening score. Smith hit wide receiver Shawn Ward for a 31-yard score midway into the first quarter.

Central Connecticut got on the board with a safety as linebacker Joe Harrison tackled Smith in the end zone.

Hall took control of the game in the middle of the second quarter as he busted out right on a touchdown run of 10 yards. Hall then followed good blocking to score from 2 yards with 11:05 left in the final quarter.

"Paul has been here for four years. When Larry [Washington] went down, he stepped up nicely," said Towson State coach Gordy Combs. "He has always stepped up when we needed him."

Said Blue Devils head coach Sal Cintorino: "Gordy's staff did a good job of play calling. They controlled the ball well and their young quarterback did a good job of understanding what he had to do."

The Blue Devils added a late score on a 1-yard run by Stan House.

Leading the Tigers' defense was Marco Calise.

He intercepted a pass and returned it 10 yards to set up a Towson field goal. He finished with 10 solo tackles and one sack.
