Day's crisp passes get Salisbury St. past Chowan, 21-6

David Doy completed 18 of 24 passes for 215 yards and one touchdown as Salisbury State topped Chowan, 21-6, before 450 at Garrison Stadium in Murfreesboro, N.C. Doy's 41-yard touchdown pass with four minutes left in the third quarter put the Sea Gulls ahead 14-6.

Salisbury State (3-1) went ahead on a 6-yard run by Matthew Carter, which was one play after the Sea Gulls recovered a Chowan fumble. Chowan (2-4) also was intercepted three times.

* Newport News 33, Frostburg State 24: Dionell Bumbrey returned a kickoff 85 yards with 6:09 left as Newport News defeated Frostburg State in front of 4,212 at Bobcat Stadium in Frostburg.

The Bobcats (3-2) out-gained the Shipbuilders (1-5), 456-332, but fumbled five times.

* Livingstone 21, Bowie State 15: Salahuddin Mansoor scored on a 17-yard run with 2:33 remaining to propel Livingstone past Bowie State before 4,750 at Bulldog Stadium in Bowie.

Bowie State (2-4) had taken a lead on a 46-yard pass from Darrell Foote to Thomas Destry two minutes before the winning score. Bowie State was penalized 21 times for 184 yards.
