Westminster man is arrested on rape charge

October 04, 1995

A 48-year-old Westminster man was charged with rape and related charges after his female companion was attacked early yesterday morning. He was being held yesterday on $100,000 bail at the Carroll County Detention Center.

State police said in District Court documents that the victim said she was with a man and that they drove to Carroll County General Hospital to drop off another man about 12:50 a.m.

After dropping off the passenger, the woman said, she and the remaining man drove from the hospital to the parking lot of Carroll Haven, just off Center Street, and he started removing her pants. She said he then raped her inside his truck.

The victim told police she fled after the assault and went to the home of a nearby relative, who took her to the hospital.

Police charged Gary Lee Grimes of the first block of Pennsylvania Ave. with rape, committing a sex offense, battery and reckless endangerment.
