Baltimore man arrested on charges of shoplifting at department store

October 04, 1995

A Baltimore man was arrested Monday for allegedly trying to shoplift clothes from the Hecht's store at Marley Station, police said.

Police said a security officer saw the man enter the store shortly before 8 p.m., take clothes from a display, place them in a bag and walk out without paying.

When the security officer grabbed the man outside the store, he began fighting. During the struggle, the man bit the security officer and pulled a pocketknife, but the officer knocked it from his hand, police said.

The officer detained the man and called police. Vernon G. Thomas, 34, of the 200 block of N. Broadway was arrested on charges of theft.
