61-year-old Severn man charged in alleged shoplifting at Caldor

A 61-year-old Severn man was arrested on theft charges Sunday after he allegedly stole a cassette player, a microphone and clothes from a Caldor store in the 7300 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd., police said.

A security guard told police he saw a man walk into the store about 5 p.m. Sunday and take a Sony cassette player from a display, police said. The man put the item in his cart, placed his coat over it, then walked out without paying, police said.

The suspect had two bags with $137 worth of Caldor merchandise when the security guard stopped him. He also admitted stealing items from Giant, Toys R Us and Wal-Mart, police said.

William Otha Edwards, 61, of the 600 block of Sandyhill Road in Severn, was charged with theft, police said.

Brooklyn Park woman, 87, stable after days on floor

An 87-year-old Brooklyn Park woman who spent several days on her floor after she collapsed was in stable condition yesterday at Harbor Hospital, officials said.

Rosetta B. Lindsay, of the 5900 block of Belle Grove Road, fell in the hallway of her Brooklyn Park home and lay there for several days before police found her about 9 a.m. Friday, police said. A neighbor said Ms. Lindsay had not collected her mail for about a week.

Ms. Lindsay's brother called police and asked them to check on his sister, police said. The brother said he went to her house and tried to get in, but was unsuccessful. She was taken by ambulance to Harbor Hospital Center, police said.
