Police community relations council will meet

DID YOU ever wonder what it is that our local police officers do for our community? Do you have questions or concerns that you would like answered?

The Northern District Police Community Relations Council invites you to attend its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Northern District Station on Hammonds Lane.

The speaker will be Detective John Ogle from the district's Team Police Unit. Capt. Gary Barr will give an update on community activities.

The Homework Club at Belle Grove Elementary School will meet Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. beginning tomorrow.

Students may go to the library to work on homework or get assistance in classwork they may not understand. A permission slip from home is required for each student who wants to participate.

* Thursday will be the first meeting of the Math Club this year.

Students will meet in the library from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. each Thursday to work on math skills. Teachers will be there to offer advice and assistance. All students are welcome, but they will need a permission slip to participate.

Brooklyn Park Elementary School students and teachers will participate in School-Wide Skate tonight from 6:30 until 8:30 at Skate City II in Crofton.

Admission is $2.75 plus $1.25 for skate rentals. Parents who are not skating do not have to pay the admission fee. Come join the teachers and students in a fun-filled evening.

It's Spirit Week at North County High School.

Each day will have a theme, and students are being encouraged to dress accordingly. On Friday, a pep rally will honor the fall sports teams, band, poms and cheerleaders.

Saturday will be Homecoming Day, starting with an 11:30 a.m. parade from the school to the football stadium. Marchers will travel down B & A Boulevard through Ferndale and return on Ferndale Avenue in time for the 1 p.m. kickoff.

The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime, and the day's activities will end with a Homecoming Dance from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

* The Parents Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the conference room. The group will be planning a crafts show and talking about other booster activities. Everyone is invited.

The county Department of Aging is offering a 10-week painting class for adults at 12:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, in the Brooklyn Park Library community room.

The St. John Lutheran Church choir is selling Entertainment Books to help raise money for its efforts.

These books supply money-saving coupons for restaurants, entertainment and an assortment of other businesses. They make wonderful gifts for the holidays.

This year, the regular book will be accompanied by Entertainment Gold, a new electronic dining program, but the price will remain $35.
