Student charged in assault during fire drill

A ninth-grade student at Old Mill High School in Millersville was arrested Thursday on a charge of assaulting a fellow student.

The ninth-grader, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, punched a 10th-grader in the face during a fire drill, breaking his jaw in two places. Witnesses told police the attack was unprovoked.

The victim was treated at North Arundel Hospital. The ninth-grader was charged as a juvenile with assault and was released to his parents.

Traffic violation leads to drug, assault charges

A Glen Burnie man was arrested on drug charges Wednesday after he led county police on a wild chase through Brooklyn Park, Pasadena and Glen Burnie, police said.

Northern District officers tried to stop a red, 1994 Chevrolet Geo that was heading west on Church Street in Brooklyn Park for a traffic violation shortly after 5:30 p.m., police said.

But the driver accelerated, leading officers south on Ritchie Highway, east on the Beltway, south on Route 10, then across Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard and south on Crain Highway until turned into the Green Tree apartment complex near Veterans Highway.

As he turned into the complex, police said, they saw the driver toss something from the car. Officers finally stopped the man when they set up a roadblock there.

Meanwhile, a resident of the apartments picked up a bottle he had seen the man throw from the car and turned it over to police, who said the contents tested as PCP.

Robert L. Rhea, 19, of the 8000 block of Winding Woods Road was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute PCP, assault on an officer, resisting arrest and 10 traffic violations.

Two men arrested on drug charges in Arnold

County police arrested two men on drug charges Thursday night in Arnold.

Police said an undercover officer patrolling Bay Green Drive about 9:30 p.m. saw two men in a 1989 Volkswagen parked on the side of the road smoking.

Police said the officer stopped to check the car and smelled marijuana. He searched the car and found an unspecified quantity of something believed to be marijuana.

Elricco Jones, 20, of the 1500 block of Starpine Drive in Annapolis and Gene William Kobin, 20, of the 200 block of Pendleton Court in Arnold were charged with possession of marijuana.
