Former Orioles president Larry Lucchino, now the chief executive officer of the Padres, asked for and received ZTC permission to talk to Orioles assistant general manager Frank Robinson last spring about working in San Diego.
Offered some sort of assistantship to Lucchino, Robinson decided at that time to stay with the Orioles, but he also left open the possibility that he would talk to the Padres again this fall. Now that San Diego general manager Randy Smith has resigned, it stands to reason Robinson could be among the candidates to replace Smith, or assume some role in the power vacuum that exists there at the moment.
