HERE ARE some more ready-readers from Forest Ridge Elementary school. These are dedicated bibliophiles who completed the Howard County Library's Summer Reading game and deserve special note.

This week's list includes Zach Miller, Jacob Miller, Matthew Miller, Katherine Mezerhane, Jaclyn McCallister, Brock McCallister, Nicole Malczewski, Kristen Machcinski, Rachel Lerman, Kristina Lerman, Molly Lazarek, David Lazarek, Amanda Lande, Andy Kolczynski, Karen Kokal, Elise Klatte, Leah Klatte, Samantha Katzen, Daniel Hunter, Thomas Hunter, Dasha Howell, Athalia Howell, Deborah Howell, Travis Horrom and Cassandra Holtmann.

Alert readers will have to wait until next week for more information about the rest of Forest Ridge's ready-readers.

Spaghetti dinner

Tonight, tickle your taste buds and relax secure in the knowledge that no kitchen cleanup awaits: Come to the Savage Volunteer Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary spaghetti dinner tonight and give your stove a break.

A paltry $5 per adult, $3 for elementary-age eaters and free admission for preschoolers gets hearty eaters all the spaghetti they can wolf down.

There's a garden salad accompanying the dinner, along with garlic bread (we fear no vampires, even this close to Halloween). Coffee and dessert top off this meal.

A delicious repast, no dirty dishes and money raised to support ** the fire company.

What could be better?

The dinner will be in the Savage Fire Company's Hall on Lincoln Street from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. There's also takeout available for those who prefer to munch in private.

"Gentle parenting"

Countryside Fellowship Church is sponsoring a new series of classes called "Gentle parenting."

The classes cover such issues as discipline, family values and personality types. Learn why your toddler is intolerable, and how to endure it.

The eight-week series begins Sunday. The one-hour class begins at 9 a.m., and the church offers coffee to the barely awake on a Sunday morning.

Call the church at (301) 490-5737 for details and directions.

The church also is offering a new Friday night service for those whose schedule or family commitments make attendance at Sunday services impossible. That's it, folks, no more excuses!

Come Oct. 6 to the 7:30 p.m. service. Your humble correspondent is reliably informed that there will be cappuccino available after the service. I've no clue who's bringing the machine.

Forest Ridge partnership

The McDonald's at Laurel Mall has entered into a partnership with the Forest Ridge Elementary School PTA again.

McDonald's will donate 20 percent of its total dinner sales of Oct. 10 to the school. Last year, the PTA got $500 this way! Come out from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
