Hits And Misses

September 27, 1995|By Buster Olney

On the field: Joe Carter started in center field, but after flying out in the bottom of the first and playing the field in the top of the second, he was replaced in the outfield by Shannon Stewart; Carter is suffering from a sore back

In the dugout: With the Orioles leading 2-0, Curtis Goodwin led off the fifth inning with a looping double down the left-field line. Brady Anderson sacrificed him to third -- his fourth sacrifice bunt of the year. However, the Blue Jays crossed up the strategy when Shawn Green caught Bobby Bonilla's fly ball in right and gunned down Goodwin at the plate.

In the clubhouse: Toronto second baseman Roberto Alomar, who could become a free agent after this season, said that players on other teams have attempted to coax him into signing with their respective clubs. "A lot of guys," he said smiling, "have said a lot of things."
