Men killed in crash on Route 2 identified

September 25, 1995

The State Medical Examiner's Office has identified the two men killed Thursday when the 1987 Camaro in which they were riding slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer on Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie at about 100 mph and was ripped in half.

The two were John Bowman, 22, and William Bowman, 20, both of the 1100 block of Nanticoke Street in Baltimore, investigators said.

Car parts were strewn across the northbound lanes of Route 2, backing up morning rush-hour traffic for miles as police closed all northbound lanes and two of the three southbound lanes. The car had been reported stolen.

Jeep overturns, killing driver

A 54-year-old Glen Burnie man was killed shortly after 5 p.m. Friday when he lost control of his Jeep and it overturned on Furnace Branch Road, police said.

John J. Johnson, of the 400 block Burwood Road, was traveling south in the 600 block of Furnace Branch Road when the Jeep struck a residential mailbox, swerved across the roadway, and overturned on the driver.
