Van Deusen lifts W. Maryland past Ursinus, 27-7

WILKES-BARRE, PA. — Quarterback Brian Van Deusen (Atholton) threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead Western Maryland over Ursinus, 27-7, yesterday in a Centennial Conference game in Westminster.

Western Maryland (3-1, 2-0) won its third straight game. Ursinus fell to 1-2 and 0-2.

Van Deusen was 27 of 53 for 283 yards to become the conference's career leader in passing yards with 4,433, surpassing the 4,150 compiled by Mark Campbell of Johns Hopkins from 1983 to 1985.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Chuck Wotkowicz rushed nine times for 116 yards and Don Zajick added 101 yards on 17 carries to lead Johns Hopkins.

Johns Hopkins (2-1) out-gained King's (0-2), 451 yards to 193.

The Blue Jays scored 21 points in the second quarter, starting with Jim Guzzo's 16-yard touchdown pass to Hari Lymon. Guzzo was 10 of 16 for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

PETERSBURG, Va. -- Sam Harrell scored on a 9-yard run at the 14:56 mark of the second quarter to lift host Virginia State (3-1) over Bowie State (1-3).
