Gayle Briscoe named Realtor of the Year

Gayle Briscoe of Otis Warren Real Estate Services in Baltimore has been named Realtor of the Year by the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors.

Ms. Briscoe, a 25-year veteran of the real estate business, is 1996 president-elect of the board, the region's largest Realtor organization and the oldest real estate trade group in the nation.

The board recognized Ms. Briscoe at a recent ceremony at the HarborView Marina and Yacht Club. Also honored were Judy Morris of O'Conor, Piper & Flynn in Baltimore as Distinguished Realtor Sales Associate; and Chuck McEvoy of Columbia National Mortgage Corp. and Brian Sacks of First Town Mortgage Corp. in Timonium, who tied for Affiliate of the Year.

More money available at Enterprise Mortgage

Enterprise Mortgage Investments Inc. of Columbia, which lends money for affordable multifamily housing, has received a $1.5 million low-cost loan from the Ford Foundation and has already issued mortgage commitments on four loans.

One of the loans is for 88 rehabilitated units in Seat Pleasant, in Prince George's County. Enterprise Mortgage has provided a 15-year loan for $2.7 million to Volunteers of America Chesapeake.

Service won't be cut, merging banks say

To quell concerns that Chemical Banking Corp.'s merger with Chase Manhattan Corp. will reduce services in New York's poor neighborhoods, the banks said that most offices in low-income areas will stay open.

Chemical and Chase also said they will add multilingual automatic teller machines, renovate offices to handle extra business from closures that do occur, and extend branch hours.
