Man held in burglary at vacant apartment

September 21, 1995

A Taneytown man, who was found inside a vacant apartment, was held on $2,500 bond on burglary and related charges yesterday.

Taneytown police Officer Bill Tyler said he received a call to the first block of York St. for a burglary in progress. The officer said he was told the occupant of the first-floor apartment heard noise upstairs about 12:40 a.m. yesterday.

Officer Tyler went to the second-floor apartment and saw a man trying to climb out a window to a porch roof. The man, who said he had no fixed address, had entered the apartment through the window, the officer said.

Nothing was taken from the apartment, which contained some furniture, police said.

Jesse Schissler, 18, was held at the detention center for a bail review hearing, police said, and was charged with burglary, malicious destruction of property and trespassing.
