September 19, 1995

County police arrested a Wheaton man on assault charges Sunday after a woman was choked and two men were chased with an 8-inch knife during a fight in the parking lot of a Fort Smallwood Road tavern.

Police said the men walked out of the Marina Lounge in the 9200 block of Fort Smallwood Road about 1 a.m. and saw a man in a car choking Barbara Lynn Gollick, 25, of the 500 block of Carlsbad Court in Lansdowne. When the men approached the car to break up the fight, the man got out of the car waving a knife and chased them away.

When an officer arrived, the man was inside the bar. The officer searched him and found a folding buck knife in his pocket, police said.

Police arrested Scott Austin Johnson, 24, of the 12100 block of Viers Mill Road in Wheaton and charged him with assault and battery.

Man exposes himself on bicycle trail

County police are looking for a man who exposed himself to a woman Sunday while both of them were riding bicycles on the Baltimore Annapolis trail near Jumpers Hole Road, county police said.

It was the second report of indecent exposure on the trail in a week, police said.

According to police, the woman was riding southbound on the trail about 2:45 p.m. when a man began riding along beside her. When she looked over at the man, he lifted up his T-shirt, revealing that the front of his pants was open, fondled himself, asked "Do you like this?" then road off.

Police searched the area and found several other people who said they saw the man, but they did not find the suspect.

In the earlier incident, two women told police they saw a nude man masturbating in the woods along the trail north of Norfolk Road in Harundale about 1:15 p.m. Thursday.
