A Goldsboro man was arrested Sunday morning after an attempt to steal money from a Crown gas station in the 5700 block of Ritchie Highway, county police said.

A man entered the store about 12:30 a.m. and asked for a pack of cigarettes. When the clerk went to get them, the man reached over the counter and tried to take money from the cash register, police said. After a brief struggle, he grabbed two cartons of cigarettes and ran, police said.

Later, police saw a man who fit the thief's description walking toward the station. After questioning, the man confessed to stealing the cigarettes, police said.

Christian Zion Linthicum, 20, of the 24300 block of E. Cherry Lane, was arrested and charged with robbery.

Police detained Cyprain Chinedozi Onuoha and held him without bail at the county jail until his extradition to Virginia.

A Glock 9 mm handgun and two full clips were seized from Mr. Onuoha's car, police said.
