County police are looking for two men who did not return to the county Detention Center from their work-release jobs Friday morning, county police said.

Carlos Hall III, who is serving one year on a drug possession charge, and George Hicks, who is serving one year for failure to pay child support, left the Detention Center about 6 a.m. Friday to go to work, the police report said. Hall worked at American Securities and Moving Co. in the first block of Hudson Street in Annapolis, and Hicks worked or Reems Landscaping in Annapolis. They were both to return to the Detention Center by 7 p.m. Friday, police said.

When neither had returned by 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a guard at the Detention Center called police.

Man charged with theft from stores

An Annapolis man was arrested and charged with stealing from a supermarket and a shoe store Saturday afternoon, county police said.

A security officer at the Giant Food store in the 2300 block of Forest Drive in Annapolis, told police he saw a man take two cartons of Newport cigarettes from a display and leave the store about 2:45 p.m.

The security guard stopped the man and called police.

When an officer arrived, the manager of the Payless Shoe Source store in the same block came out and told police that the man had taken a pair of suede oxford shoes from her store, the police report said.

Police charged Dewayne William Laurie, 33, of the 1800 block of Bowman Court in Annapolis with two counts of theft.
