Loyola gets another shutout, Classic title in men's soccer

Marc Harrison scored twice and the Loyola men's soccer team (4-2) won the Reebok/Smith Barney Classic yesterday, defeating host Vermont (2-5), 2-0, in Burlington, Vt.

It was Loyola's fourth consecutive victory and third straight shutout.

Maryland 2, N.C. State 0:Maryland 2, N.C. State 0: Freshman forward Pierre Venditti scored unassisted at 3:32 and 54:01 to lead host No. 3 Maryland (5-0-1, 1-0-1) past No. 17 N.C. State (1-3-1, 0-1-0) in Atlantic Coast Conference action.

Women's soccer

Maryland 3, Wake Forest 0:Maryland 3, Wake Forest 0: Michelle Deville was the first of three Terps to score in the second half, helping Maryland (3-2-1, 0-2-0), ranked No. 15 by Soccer News, shut out visiting Wake Forest (3-2-1, 0-2-0) in ACC action.

Loyola 5, Siena 0:Loyola 5, Siena 0: Jaime DeSoto scored in both halves and host Loyola (3-3-1, 1-1-0) shut out Siena (1-3, 0-2) in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game.

Old Dominion 2, Navy 1:Old Dominion 2, Navy 1: Jen Gillespie assisted on the game's first goal and scored the second-half game-winner in Norfolk, Va.

Field hockey

Salisbury State 5, Denison 1:Salisbury State 5, Denison 1: Abby Martzall scored a hat trick to pace host Salisbury State (4-1) past Denison (3-4) at the Salisbury State Invitational. Salisbury State and Eastern Mennonite both finished with 3-0 records, so the title was determined by goal differential, which Eastern Mennonite won, 11-7.

New Hampshire 7, Towson State 2:New Hampshire 7, Towson State 2: Jessica McClain and Stacy Semple each scored two goals as New Hampshire downed Towson State (2-2, 0-2) in a North Atlantic Conference game in Boston.
