A car chase in Ellicott City between a Howard County police officer and a teen-ager ended when the stolen car struck another vehicle in Baltimore yesterday, police said.

The driver -- a 17-year-old Baltimore boy whose name was not available -- was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore along with the driver of the car his auto struck.

Shortly after midnight, an officer using a radar gun saw a 1992 Acura Legend traveling east on U.S. 40 near Oaks Road at 70 mph in a 45 mph zone, police said. The car had been reported stolen Wednesday evening from the 5600 block of Columbia Road.

The officer pursued the car while notifying Howard County and Baltimore City police of the chase.

At the intersection of Edmondson Avenue and Cooks Lane in Baltimore, the Acura's driver lost control of the car, which crossed the median and struck a BMW stopped at a traffic light, police said.

Charges are pending against the teen-ager. The investigation is continuing, county police said.
