2 men, juvenile charged with having beer in park

September 13, 1995

Manchester police arrested two adults and a 16-year-old on charges of possessing beer in Christmas Tree Park during the weekend.

Police Chief Donald Myers said Officer Timothy Timmons was on routine patrol and observed two men standing outside a blue Pontiac parked off the 3300 block of Water St. and two others inside the vehicle and was able to drive up behind them undetected.

When the men realized the officer was directly behind them, the chief said, both reportedly quickly bent over and placed something on the ground under the vehicle.

The chief said the officer recovered a 12-pack carton of beer, a quart bottle of beer and a bottle of beer on the ground.

Inside he found another quart bottle of beer, according to the chief. Also recovered inside the vehicle was a small amount of marijuana and a plastic wrapper.

Police arrested Richard L. Pyles, 26, of the 3000 block of Crown Circle and Paul D. Reinhardt, 18, of the 3000 block of S. Main St.

Mr. Pyles was charged with furnishing beer to a minor and Mr. Reinhardt was charged with possession of beer by someone under age 21.

The third adult was not arrested, according to the chief.

The juvenile, whose name was not released because of his age, was charged with possession of beer and marijuana. He was released to his parents, the chief said.

Student charged with drug possession

Detective Sgt. Gary Cofflin, regional supervisor of the state police drug enforcement division, said a 15-year-old boy was arrested at North Carroll High School after a small amount of marijuana was found yesterday.

Investigators said the student was released to his parents after juvenile charges were placed against him.
