Maryland women win in soccer

In yesterday's editions, the score of the Loyola-Siena men's college soccer game was reported incorrectly in the roundup. Loyola defeated Siena, 2-0.

The Sun regrets the error.

Tricia Taliaferro scored two goals to lead Maryland past host Florida State, 5-1, in women's soccer yesterday. The Terps (3-0) outshot the Seminoles, 25-2.

* Loyola 1, American 1: Lisa Herndon scored at the 29-minute mark as American (2-0-1) tied host Loyola (2-2-1). Denise Serafin scored the Greyhounds' goal.

FOR THE RECORD - CORRECTION

Men

* Towson State 3, Iona 1: Petteri Kaijasilta had two goals and an assist to help Towson State (4-0) past visiting Iona. The Tigers played the final 23:06 one player down after freshman Richard Moller picked up his second yellow card.

Towson State's streak of holding opponents scoreless ended at 355 minutes when Iona scored with 34:36 left in the game.

* Loyola 2, Siena 2: Ari Edelman scored with 56 seconds left in overtime as Loyola (2-2) tied host Siena (0-1). Joe Schaefer recorded 13 saves for the Greyhounds.

* Goucher 5, Guilford 4: Radcliffe Roye scored three goals to lift Goucher (1-3) over visiting Guilford (1-3).

It was the first victory for Goucher first-year coach Jim Lyons.
