Carver slips past Northern, 6-0, in OT

Tight end Andre Falcon caught a 5-yard pass from quarterback Andre Moore two minutes into overtime as Carver defeated Northern, 6-0, yesterday.

Moore completed eight passes for 125 yards and Falcon made two solo tackles for the Bears.

* Northern-Calvert 30, Severna Park 20: Cee Harris scored three touchdowns to push Northern-Calvert (1-0) over No. 11 Severna Park (0-1). The Falcons were held to 34 yards rushing.

* Arundel 40, Bowie 20: Halfback Eugene Collins ran 120 yards for two touchdowns to lead No. 15 Arundel (1-0) over visiting Bowie (0-1). Quarterback Eric Lipton was five of seven for 69 yards.

* St. Paul's 28, Towson 0: Chris Berrier ran for 180 yards and two touchdowns as host St. Paul's (1-0) shut out Towson (0-1).

The Crusaders' Buggs Combs made 12 tackles, including four for losses, and had a fumble recovery and an interception.

Scott Kim led St. Paul's with 17 tackles. Generals running back Ken Glover ran for 146 yards.

* Meade 18, Laurel 16: Roman Harrison scored on a 3-yard run with 1:02 remaining to lift host Meade (1-0) over visiting Laurel (0-1). Harrison had 106 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Willie Thomas scored two touchdowns, including one on a 97-yard fumble recovery.

* Forest Park 32, Mervo 8: Quarterback Adrian Griffin ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to lead Forest Park (1-0) over visiting Mervo (0-1).

Griffin completed seven of 10 passes for 114 yards.

Aaron Thompson gained 92 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries for the Foresters. Calvin Thurmond scored two two-point conversions and intercepted a pass.

* Edmondson 44, Northwestern 0: Corey Brown rushed for 150 yards and four touchdowns to help Edmondson (1-0) get past host Northwestern (0-1). Brown averaged over 21 yards per carry.

Redskins quarterback Donald Goodman was 6-for-9 for 75 yards and one touchdown.

* Loch Raven 9, Patapsco 0: Scott Kas' 25-yard field goal and Craig Hull's 3-yard touchdown run were the game's only points as visiting Loch Raven (1-0) defeated Patapsco (0-1).

Todd Johnston rushed for 98 yards for Patapsco.

* Owings Mills 18, Western Tech 6: Larry Bragg, John Simmons and Sean Miles each scored a touchdown, leading Owings Mills (1-0) past host Western Tech (0-1).

* Joppatowne 19, Glenelg 18: Shaun Adams scored all three touchdowns, including a 22-yard run with three minutes left in the game, to lead host Joppatowne (1-0) past Glenelg (0-1). Adams had an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and rushed for 137 yards.

Lamar Williams also ran for 163 yards for the Mariners.

* Fallston 21, Parkville 0: Mark Rhoten had 82 yards rushing and scored a touchdown to help host Fallston (1-0) shut out Parkville (0-1). Kristy Heron was 3-for-3 on extra points in her third career game.

* Edgewood 31, Eastern Tech 6: Carlos Putney ran for 113 yards and three touchdowns as host Edgewood (1-0) topped Eastern Tech (0-1).

* Bel Air 34, Kenwood 14: Mike Wood scored three touchdowns and had 265 all-purpose yards, leading visiting Bel Air (1-0) past Kenwood (0-1).

Wood, a transfer from Havre de Grace, had kickoff returns for touchdowns of 86 and 82 yards. Steve Kelley rushed for 274 yards and two touchdowns for Kenwood.

* Howard 22, Southwestern 6: Owen Brown rushed for 122 yards and one touchdown as Howard (1-0) defeated visiting Southwestern (0-1).

* Francis Scott Key 36, North Carroll 0: Senior David Norwood caught two touchdown passes and ran for another to lead host Francis Scott Key (1-0) over North Carroll (0-1). Key senior tailback Cortney Woodyard rushed for 152 yards -- 128 in the first half -- and added another score on a 4-yard run.

* Pikesville 38, Carver A&T 0: Larry Williams had nine carries for 155 yards and scored four touchdowns, leading visiting Pikesville (1-0) past Carver A&T (0-1).

* Hereford 41, Lansdowne 8: Lou Thomas rushed for 183 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead Hereford (1-0) past visiting Lansdowne (0-1), extending the Vikings' losing streak to 43 games.

* Glen Burnie 26, Queen Anne's 7: Joe Queen rushed for 111 yards and Rob Beale ran 103 yards with 11 carries to help pace host Glen Burnie (1-0) over Queen Anne's (0-1).
