FDU-MADISON (0-0) AT JOHNS HOPKINS (0-0)

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Homewood Field

Outlook: Hopkins is looking to avenge last year's 13-3 loss to the Jersey Devils and improve on a 4-6 record that included a third-place finish in the Centennial Conference. The teams have split 10 games in the series. Hopkins won its final two games last year and, with eight players back on defense, each of whom started at some point, hopes run high. Last year, the Blue Jays ranked second in the conference in total defense, allowing just 15.1 points a game. Senior strong safety Rob McGuire led Hopkins with 104 tackles last year and had three sacks. The linebacking corps includes senior Victor Carter-Bey (3 1/2 sacks) and junior Stu Clutterbuck, who combined for 147 tackles. Also returning is senior quarterback Dan Redziniak, who threw for 1,073 yards and five touchdowns, completing 64.5 percent of his passes. FDU won its first three games last year, before finishing at 4-6.

SALISBURY STATE (0-0) AT TRENTON STATE (0-0)

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Site: Lions Stadium, Trenton, N.J.

Outlook: Trenton has won both meetings between the schools since the rivalry was renewed in 1993 after an eight-year layoff, but Salisbury leads the overall series, 8-4. Last year, Trenton rallied from a seven-point deficit at halftime to win, 35-20. The Lions gained 455 yards on the ground. Salisbury quarterback Marc Thomas threw for two touchdowns, but he is sidelined this year with a neck injury and is being replaced by senior David Doy (Howard High). Doy played in six games last year, completing 22 of 37 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns. '' Salisbury is trying to replace last year's 1,000-yard rusher, Byron Push, with the combination of Mack James, Daron Wimbish and Butch Strong (Glen Burnie). Trenton won a share of the New Jersey Athletic Conference championship last year.
