Hits And Misses

September 06, 1995|By Brad Snyder

On the field: The second-inning home runs by Chris Hoiles, Jeff Manto, Mark Smith and Brady Anderson came in a span of eight pitches.

In the dugout: Angels manager Marcel Lachemann pulled starter Brian Anderson after Anderson had pitched 1 1/3 innings and had given up the fourth homer. As the pitcher left the field, the Orioles' fans above the California dugout mockingly cheered with delight.

In the clubhouse: "This and DiMaggio's 56-game [hitting] streak always seem the most unattainable in baseball. I didn't think anyone would come close to either." -- Lachemann.
