Runners looking to tune up for the Marine Corps, New York, Philadelphia or another fall marathon might want to consider the Watershed Half-Marathon on Oct. 1.

It is part of the Watershed Biathlon (2.5-mile run, 13.1-mile bike, 2.5-mile run) and Half-Marathon package being produced by the Tri-Maryland Triathlon Club.

"The selection of the course was up to Baltimore County Police," says event director Brad Jaeger. "It starts at Loch Raven High School, goes out Cromwell Bridge Road to Loch Raven Reservoir, to Peerce's Plantation and back.

"It finishes on the track. All the roads will be closed to traffic, which was a miracle in itself."

The event will offer $2,000 in prize money, equally divided. First-place prizes of $250 will be awarded to the top male and female finisher in the half-marathon.

"The rest of the money will be divided up based on percentages of men and women in each race," says Jaeger. "We figure it's more fair to divvy it up this way depending on who comes out to the races."
