Jockey thrown at Timonium

September 04, 1995|By Bob Pickering

Jockey Roneil Gerardo escaped serious injury yesterday at Timonium when his mount, Cristinas Apache, broke down in the opening race.

As the field approached the backstretch, Cristinas Apache broke his left front leg, tossing Gerardo heavily to the track.

Gerardo was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center by helicopter and was given a CAT scan and treated for abrasions of the face.

He is being held for observation.

Also yesterday, Alberto Delgado celebrated his 31st birthday by riding three winners on the card, including Brilliant Patriot, winner of the Taking Risks Handicap.
