Hits And Misses

September 03, 1995|By Brad Snyder

On the field: The Orioles grounded into three double plays Friday and two last night, one by Bobby Bonilla and one by Chris Hoiles, to bring the Mariners' total to an American League-low 94. The Mariners need four to tie California.

In the dugout: Manager Phil Regan made a gutsy call bringing in Jesse Orosco with the bases loaded to face Ken Griffey in the eighth. Griffey was .429 (6-for-14) against Orosco. But Orosco struck him out.

In the clubhouse: Regan has been fielding questions about which players will be in winter ball and what Armando Benitez's role will be next season, signs that the club is out of contention.
