Sporting goods store to donate 2 bikes to police

September 03, 1995

A Columbia sporting goods store will donate two bicycles to the Howard County Police Department for use in the department's bike patrol program.

Representatives from Princeton Sports and Travel will present the Cannondale mountain bikes during a ceremony at the department Tuesday at 1 p.m.

For the past two years, the department has operated routine bike patrols along Columbia's pathways and at parks, as well as in other parts of the county. Six officers are assigned to the patrols.

Meanwhile, the police department will hold Cyclefest '95, an annual bicycle tour through the Howard County countryside to benefit the Maryland Special Olympics. This year's tour will be Sept. 24, starting at 8:30 a.m.

Participation costs $15. To register or to get more information, call Cpl. Kevin Costello at 313-2267.
