The Linthicum Elementary School family would like to welcome several new staff members to the school for the 1995-96 school year.

Dawn Datson, an teacher from High Point Elementary, will be the new special education teacher, replacing Will Robinson, who has taken a teaching position in Delaware.

Debbie Martin will be joining us from Harmans Elementary to be the new second-grade teacher. She is taking the position left vacant by the retirement of Romaine Wilson.

New part-time instructors are physical education teacher Debbie Shacklock and art teacher Susan Brisson.

Kathy Nappi will be returning to Linthicum as the fifth-grade teaching assistant. Linthicum also will have a full-time health assistant, Vera Spilker, who will be supervised by Tammy Rose, a nurse shared with Hilltop Elementary.

Principal Sharyn Doyle said school hours remain the same as they were last year, with students expected to be in their classrooms by 9:10 a.m.

School begins this year on Aug. 28.

* As many people have noticed, Linthicum Elementary has added a portable classroom behind the school. Ms. Doyle said the trailer, which is expected to be ready in late September, will be used for instrumental music instruction, band instruction and as the parent center. It will not be used outside school hours.

* There will be a new-student orientation for children entering grades one to six at 1 p.m. Thursday. Families new to Linthicum are asked to call the school office at 222-6935 for details about this program.

* The school is establishing a parent committee to work with the school board to study the issue of uniforms for students. Anyone interested in joining this committee should call Pam Engel at 850-0062.

The St. Philip Neri Home School Association is sponsoring an ice cream social for families of students from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in the schoolyard. Enjoy seeing old friends, welcoming new families and meeting the school's new principal, Teresa Baker.

Ice cream will be 25 cents per scoop. Another 25 cents will let you add your choice of toppings.

A used-uniform exchange will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to help fill last-minute needs.

The social will be moved into the school hall if it rains. For more information, call Barbara Bryl at 850-4480.

* St. Philip Neri School reopens Sept. 5, and there will be half-day sessions all week, from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15.

Regular school hours -- 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. -- will begin Sept. 11. Uniforms are required as of the first day of school.
